It Will Be Unlucky Day 13 For Some.
Day 13 for World Cup Spread Betting at South Africa 2010 and lets hope it’s not unlucky 13 for England as they face up to Slovenia this afternoon in Port Elizabeth. Needing to win to be sure of progressing to the last 16 nothing less will get the England bandwagon rolling. Two dismal displays which see them left on 2 points, in a group which quite frankly they should have walked with the players they have, leaves them fighting for their footballing lives. Some of these players know they will never play on such a stage again and to bow out with nothing more than a whimper is not good enough, not for them as players, for their country or their fans.
Today is last chance saloon and only victory will do. They can all talk the talk now it’s time to walk the walk. Fabio Capello is confident ahead of the match having crushed the mini uprising that occurred on Sunday. John Terry won’t be dropped as he is too important a player according to Capello. Time now for Terry to show some of the leadership on the pitch that he is so keen to show off it. The other match in the group sees USA take on Algeria with any 2 still able to progress to the next round.
Over in group D this evening Australia play Serbia and Ghana play Germany. Again in this group it is all to play for with any of the 4 teams able to go through depending on results and this will be the group which will provide the opposition for England’s group in the last 16. Should be a very interesting day to say the least.
Yesterdays games saw the farce that is France finally exit the tournament with only 1 point after been beaten by hosts South Africa 2-1. They were not helped by the sending off of Yoan Gourcuff, and for a while the South Africans had a slight chance of going through when they led 2-0 and Uruguay led 1-0 against Mexico. Another couple of goals in either match and it could have happened but it was not to be and the South Africans bowed out with their heads held high. Raymond Domenech then refused to shake hands with Carlos Alberto Parreria at the end of the match. It was allegedly over some comments made over the French Qualifier with Ireland last November. You need all the friends you can get Raymond, grow up.
So it’s Uruguay and Mexico through from Group A and they will be joined in the last 16 by Argentina and South Korea from Group B after Argentina topped their group with 3 wins after beating Greece 2-0. Lionel Messi was made captain for the day and showed some flashes of the brilliance we know he can produce. The only thing missing was a goal. Diego is trying to calm some of the euphoria surrounding his team by saying they will have much sterner tests in the games to come. Nigeria and South Korea played out a 2-2 draw in the other match which means the Koreans progress for the first time outside their own country.
The first 2 matches of the last 16 are now finalised with Uruguay v South Korea and an all South American affair Argentina v Mexico. That turned out to be a cracking match at the last World Cup if memory serves me right. Another day of Tension, drama and hopefully excitement ensues and for some it will be unlucky day 13.
